Housing & Mixed-use Development
Armour Heritage has worked with developers on residential and mixed-use schemes of all sizes, from the individual home owner looking to extend or infill a single plot, to large scale greenfield or brownfield developments. Generally, the NPPF requires that an Historic Environment Desk Based Assessment is completed in advance of the planning application being submitted. AH can normally complete such an assessment within two weeks of commission at a very competitive rate.
Should the assessment identify sufficient archaeological potential, the Local Planning Authority may require further pre-application investigations, such as geophysical survey or trial trench evaluation. Using a wide range of local and national geophysical survey and archaeological fieldwork partners, AH can procure and manage any type or scale of pre-application survey work, guaranteeing the client both best value and a good quality outcome.
On larger schemes, where EIA is required, AH can be relied upon to provide a comprehensive and complete service, from initial scoping, through the assessment and evaluation process to completion of the Cultural Heritage Environmental Statement chapter and submission of the planning application. Our services will continue beyond the planning stage if required, providing solutions to the resolution of any planning conditions.
Recent examples of AH's work on larger scale mixed-use development include our ongoing work with Swindon Borough Council on Phase II of the Wichelstowe development, to the south of Swindon, where we have completed an updated Environmental Statement, including a new historic environment desk based assessment, along with procurement and management of further geophysical survey and two stages of evaluation across a site of over 120ha.
